In the Cut 5k Fun Run/Walk will start at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre (Formerly Chene Park) and proceed down Atwater through the Dequindre Cut and back. The course is certified with the USATF.

The Dequindre Cut Greenway, an urban recreational path, officially opened to the public in May of 2009. Formerly a Grand Trunk Railroad line, the Dequindre Cut is a below-street level path that runs parallel to St. Aubin Street, between Mack Avenue and Woodbridge Street just north of the Riverfront, starting at Atwater traveling to Gratiot.

ABOUT US >

In the cut 5k was inspired by a group of men to help move our community toward a more healthy way of living. What better way to do that than with the objective of completing a 5k. While there is a race, the event also has partnered with health care groups and local personal training and fitness facilities to bring about a change.

The name "IN THE CUT" was inspired by the first run to ever be organized as an official event in Detroit's "Dequindre Cut Greenway", The Dequindre Cut Greenway is an urban recreational path that opened to the public in May of 2009. The inaugural Inthecut5k fun run started at Chene park with a path though the developing Dequindre Cut and back. The run moved to Historic Hines drive park in 2022 because of growing costs associated with running at the extremely popular downtown jewel along the riverfront in Detroit.
