In the Cut 5K



Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Nu Omega Chapter, Detroit in Conjunction with and  The Global Education & Athletics Foundation are proud to present the Annual "In the Cut 5k Fun Run/Walk" Event.

This Community Outreach event is in support of not only our Healthy Heart Healthy Living initiative but also helps provide funding to support our back pack program and Holiday Food Basket Program for seniors.

The event will feature a fun run, walk, and relay along with health screenings for those participating or those just supporting.






Why we do it?

The Men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Nu Omega Chapter located in Detroit, have been serving Metro-Detroit since 1923, with numerous community, political and social programs to uplift people.

The Global Education & Athletics Foundation has a belief that all students can become assets to their community through improving their education, physical health and mental health. “..Working to constantly fight childhood obesity.”


Health for you


There are 3 types of preventive health screenings. Ultrasound screenings, Limited electrocardiograph and Finger-stick blood screenings. Finger-stick screenings will be conducted at the Fun Run


Many significant health benefits are achieved by going from a sedentary state to a minimal level of physical activity "Run or Walk".  Funding from the run will help fund our back pack program and other worthy causes. 

Health Screenings

Blood Pressure. Involves a pressure cuff being placed around your upper arm to monitor both diastolic and systolic blood pressure.

High Cholesterol Screening/Lipid. Measures three different kinds of lipids in your blood (HDL, LDL and triglycerides) as well as total cholesterol.

Type 2 Diabetes. Measures blood sugar levels following eight hours of fasting, our Blood Glucose test helps identify diabetes —a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

The Dequindre Cut Greenway, an urban recreational path, officially opened to the public in May of 2009. Formerly a Grand Trunk Railroad line, the Dequindre Cut is a below-street level path that runs parallel to St. Aubin Street, between Mack Avenue and Woodbridge Street just north of the Riverfront, starting at Atwater traveling to Gratiot.

In the Cut 5k Fun Run/Walk will start at Chene Park and proceed down Atwater through the Dequindre Cut and back. The course is certified with the USATF.
